Tom Brake yesterday voted on several issues regarding the procedures and constraints that govern Parliamentarians. Tom voted for a shortened summer recess so that the House could begin sitting in September, and voted against a communications allowance for MPs.
Tom Brake commented, 'The summer recess presents a much needed opportunity to catch up with all the constituency work that often backlogs while the house is sitting. But its length - nearly three months - allows the Government to run amuck with no opportunity for its actions to be challenged by parliament.'
On the topic of the budget changes, Tom Brake continued, 'The communications allowance could be used to create glossy annual reports at the taxpayer's expense. While I believe it is very important for MPs to stay in touch with their constituents, these reports are best paid for out of party campaign budgets.'
