Carshalton and Wallington MP Speaks out on the Collapse of Farepak Hampers

12.53.28pm GMT Wed 8th Nov 2006

Tom Brake today intervened in a Westminster Hall debate led by South Swindon MP Anne Snelgrove (L) on the topic of the Farepak Hampers collapse.

In his intervention, Tom pressed for the recently established DTI investigation, if no voluntary agreement with retailers was forthcoming, to recommend who should pay compensation, how much, and by when.

It is estimated that up to 120,000 families have lost a collective £40 million as a result of the collapse of Farepak. At least four families from Carshalton and Wallington have contacted Tom Brake about this matter.

Tom Brake said afterwards, "Central to the worries of many families and MPs, is the fact that Christmas is just a few short weeks away. Should the voluntary agreement fail to made good the losses these families have suffered, then the DTI must take immediate action."
