Tom Brake Speaks out for Alzheimer's

Tom Brake, Local Liberal Democrat MP for Carshalton and Wallington, today persevered through three late early-morning train connections to make it to the Sutton Alzheimer's Society's 'Hands off Dementia Drugs' protest.

The march today mirrored those being held around the country, and was in protest at the latest Nice decision regarding cost effectiveness and availability of Alzheimer's early-stage prevention drugs. Following the Nice decision earlier this year, the NHS will no longer supply certain drugs to those sufferers who are in the early stages of the disease.

Speaking at the rally's conclusion this morning, Tom commented, 'The government may not think it is worth spending ?2.50 a day on Alzheimer's drugs, but many of the people I met today who use the drugs disagree. These Alzheimer's drugs have made a huge difference to their quality of life, given them time, and are of huge benefit to them and their families.'
