2006 Lakeside Clean-Up

Brake and Cllr Margaret Ali (in checked coat – in front of Mr Brake) joined residents on Saturday morning from Lakeside to clean-up the Pond in Lakeside and cut back some of the vegetation.

Local Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake was not sitting with his feet up last weekend. Instead, he hit the ground running, and joined Councillor Margaret Ali and residents on Saturday morning to clean up the Lakeside area.

Over the course of a bright weekend morning, local residents helped by Cllr Ali and Mr Brake filled the back of a van with the rampant triffid-like plants that had colonised the banks of the Lakeside pond.

Wallington North Liberal Democrat Councillor Margaret Ali, who put together a crew of young people to work with local residents said, "It was great to see everyone pulling together and making their area a better place to live in. Who knows after our clean-up, the ducks may return to the Pond."

Tom Brake commented, "I was glad to see such an enthusiastic turnout for this event and so many people taking pride in their surroundings."
