Tom Brake, who visited the Wallington Sorting Office early Friday morning said, "As recently as October, the Trade and Industry Secretary Alistair Darling said he would protect the national network of post offices. With the Royal Mail threatening to close thousands up and down the country, I have invited him to come to Carshalton and Wallington to meet sub-postmasters and their customers. He can then hear at first hand how much people, particularly senior citizens and those on low incomes and small businesses depend on our local Post Offices. It is time he delivered on his promise."

Tom Brake added, "In recent years, we have lost Post Offices in Carshalton, Carshalton Beeches, Sutton, Wallington and more. It seems that nowadays whether it is local post offices or our hospitals everything is being threatened with closure."
