Brake and Burstow Open Carers' Rights Day Shop

1.45.49pm GMT Wed 13th Dec 2006

Tom Brake and Paul Burstow were on hand last Friday to open the Sutton Carers Centre drop-in in Times Square.

The event was part of a national campaign to draw attention to benefits that carers can receive. With 2.3 million people becoming carers every year, they often miss out on benefits they are entitled to.

Paul Burstow said, "Carers are unsung heroes, helping to support family members or friends. They should not miss out on the benefits that can help to support them in their caring role."

Tom Brake added, "This event is about making carers aware of their entitlement. Anyone caring for a relative or neighbour should get in touch to see whether they can get some financial help."

Tom Brake and Paul Burstow are seen here with Karen Page, Carers Services Manager at Sutton Carers’ Centre.
