Tom Brake MP - Representing Carshalton and Wallington in Parliament since 1997

Brake Visits Wilson School

2.59.12pm GMT Thu 22nd Mar 2007

On Monday 19 March, Tom Brake MP, Liberal Democrat for Carshalton and Wallington visited Wilson School in Mollison Drive in Wallington, giving the local students a chance to pick the brains of their MP.

At 9:05 a.m. students from the Upper Sixth began to quiz Tom on what it was like to be an MP.

Not surprisingly the inquiries ranged from a question on the Liberal Democrat policy on university tuition and top-up fees (the Liberal Democrats are opposed) to whether the Lib Dems would enter into a coalition government with either the Tories or Labour after the elections (he said the Liberal Democrats will seek to maximise the number of votes and elected Lib Dem MPs).

Speaking on the engagement, Tom commented,

"It's great to see that young people are this interested in their local and national government. As I could tell from their line of questioning, they have been following local, national and international events closely. I would be surprised if in years to come a number of them were not gracing those famous green benches."
