On Monday 26 March 2007, Tom Brake MP, Liberal Democrat MP for Carshalton and Wallington helped the Overlap Artists open an exhibition in the Europa Gallery in Sutton library.

After saying a few words at the opening ceremony Tom Brake commented,

"Sutton is proud of its artistic traditions. Overlap Artists were right to remind us that there is a contemporary movement of artists based in and around Sutton who are helping to maintain those traditions. "

Overlap Artists, an informal gathering of artists, aim to explore creative methods and ideas but to highlight the fact that there is 'overlap' in interest and passion for imaginative work amongst artists. The show featured a wide range of art including, painting, textiles, ceramics, and modern art to name a few.
