Tom Brake MP - Representing Carshalton and Wallington in Parliament since 1997

Carers Keep Brake in the Picture

10.03.58am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 13th Jun 2007

David Osborne and his wife Mandy gave Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, a warts and all description of the challenges a carer and their loved one face in coping with the 24/7 nature of caring. David has been his wife's carer since she suffered a serious injury.

Tom visited the Osbornes, who live in a flat in Carshalton, at the start of Carers' Week.

Tom said, "Each year I participate in one or more of the activities organised for Carers' Week. This year I was lucky enough to meet David and Mandy. They painted a very colourful picture of the trials and tribulations they have to overcome in going about their daily business; problems with mobility, accessibility and employability. I now have a much clearer picture of the extra help they, and many other couples in their position, need."

Tom Brake will be taking up various issues the Osbornes raised with him.
