Network Rail Pledge to Clean-Up one of their Worst Bridges

Recent complaints have been made over the cleanliness of Wallington Station bridge

Following complaints from a number of residents about rubbish and trapped or dead pigeons, Tom Brake contacted Network Rail's Managing Director to invite him to view the state of the underside of Wallington Station railway bridge.

The MD did not attend himself, but his Public Affairs Manager, Alison McGovern, met Mr Brake. During their meeting on site, she agreed to instruct contractors to carry out an assessment to identify ways of stopping birds and rubbish collecting underneath the bridge. She described it as 'one of the worst she had seen'.

Tom Brake said, "This has been an issue for years. Various solutions have been attempted. It is time the problem was sorted out permanently. People walking along Manor Road to Wallington town centre are forced to walk under this bridge. It is at the best of times an unpleasant experience."

Tom Brake will be working with the local Wallington South Councillors Bailey, Hall, McCoy and Wallington North Councillors Ali, Glithero and Hartfield to pull together partners interested in improving Wallington Station. Partners could include LBS, Southern Railways, Network Rail and local developers.
