Thames Water leak and The Wandle

3.17.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 20th Sep 2007

Recently, the River Wandle was struck by mystery pollution which caused dozens of fish to come to the surface in the dirty water. The pollution was linked to a Thames Water leak.

The leak has left many volunteers distressed that all of the hard work they have put in to restore the river has been undermined by this incident.

Commenting on the Thames Water leak which killed thousands of fish in the River Wandle, Tom Brake MP said. 'This is a disaster. Scores of volunteers have worked for many years to restore the River Wandle to a clean and healthy environment. This has all been ruined by Thames Water by just one leak. This will be just another item to add to the list of complaints I will be raising with Thames' senior managers shortly. This list includes of course the recent floods.'
