Tom Brake MP - Representing Carshalton and Wallington in Parliament since 1997

Maps Hit the Spot - Brake

8.16.50pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 23rd Sep 2007

Tom Brake MP went back to school for a geography lesson with Year 7s at Carshalton Boys Sports College on Friday.

The purpose of his visit was to join pupils in getting to grips with identifying locations on a map and the free Ordnance Survey maps. These are provided each year by Ordnance Survey.

After his visit he said, "I now know the simple one, two, three of working out grid references; find the bottom left hand corner of the square, read down and then read across. It was great to see the boys applying this technique, deciphering the symbols and working out the grid references of the local railway stations and other landmarks."

Tom's visit is going to be written up in the school's newsletter by the Head Boy and Newsletter Editor.
