Brake Commends Handy Handbook for Older People

9.45.06pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 25th Oct 2007

Tom Brake MP joined Paul Burstow MP, Adi Cooper from Sutton Council, Cllr Colin Stears and Marion Harper on a crowded platform at the launch of the Sutton Handbook - A New Guide to Services for Older People - at the Civic Offices on Thursday 25th October.

Speaking to an audience of around 50 people, Tom Brake set out what around 8,000 local people who responded to his constituency survey had identified as their key concerns; post office closures, lack of NHS dentists and the future of St Helier Hospital and its Accident and Emergency Unit. He then drew attention to the way the handbook could help tackle some of those problems.

He said afterward, "A huge amount of effort has gone into producing this handbook. It is packed with useful info and couldn't be easier to read."

The handbook can be accessed on Age Concern's website; www.ageconcernsutton.org.uk

Other organisations present at the event included: Sutton Fire Service, Safer Sutton Partnership, Trading Standards, Adult Social Services & Housing, Sutton Pension Service + outreach team, Community Engagement Network, SCILL, SAB and Age Concern.
