Wallington Residents Back 'Save Our Post Offices' Campaign10.22.59pm GMT Sun 11th Nov 2007
Cllr Abigail Lock, Sutton and Croydon's Lib Dem GLA Spokesperson, is leading the campaign across the two Boroughs against the Royal Mail and the Government's plans to close 2,500 post offices. Abigail joined Tom Brake MP in Wallington in Woodcote Road on Saturday morning to collect petition signatures for the 'Save Our Post Offices' campaign. Abigail said, "First the last Conservative Government closed 3,500 post offices. Then the Labour Government closed 4,000. Now Labour are letting another 2,500 close. We need our post offices and we are going to fight to keep them open." Tom added, "In just a couple of hours we collected hundreds of signatures. It is clear that local residents are united in their wish to see our local Post Offices open for business." Recently letters have been sent by the Royal Mail to local post offices warning them that the future of their business is to be reviewed as part of the 2,500 closure programme. The petition can be signed on-line at tombrake.co.uk.
