Lib Dems Prepare for Electoral Battle Ahead

11.13.31pm GMT Sun 2nd Dec 2007

Cllr Abigail Lock, the Liberal Democrat Candidate for the Croydon and Sutton London Assembly Constituency was the key-note speaker at the Sutton Borough Lib Dem AGM on Monday evening at the Holiday Inn in Sutton. She was joined by Leader of Sutton Council, Cllr Sean Brennan and MPs Tom Brake and Paul Burstow.

Speaking to local party members, Abigail said, "This is a great opportunity to take stock of what Liberal Democrat policies in action can achieve - it is no coincidence that Sutton is one of the greenest and safest boroughs in London with amongst the highest educational attainment rates in the country - this is due to the fact that we have had a Lib Dem led council for 21 years and two Lib Dem MPs for 10 years. As the Sutton and Croydon Assembly Candidate, I will help Croydon to benefit from Sutton's success."

Council Leader, Cllr Sean Brennan used his speech to highlight a report carried out by Conservative Wandsworth Council which found that Sutton's Lib Dem Council had the highest satisfaction rating of any London Council.

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington added, "These are exciting times for the Liberal Democrats, with our opinion poll ratings doubling in a matter of days. Whenever the PM calls the day, we will be ready for the mother of all electoral battles."

Paul Burstow MP for Sutton and Cheam said, "The PM has spent 10 years mapping out his first 100 days in Government. It is obvious he hasn't worked out what to do in his remaining days in office as the Government lurches from disaster to calamity."
