12.26.10pm GMT Wed 5th Dec 2007

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, opened the Access to Volunteering Conference on 6 November 2007. The event was held at Strawberry Lodge in Carshalton and aimed at encouraging organizations to consider volunteers from under-represented groups or minorities.

Tom Brake praised GoldStar for encouraging other voluntary organizations to let people in danger of exclusion volunteer with them. The event combined workshops and presentations and involved a wide range of high profile presenters, including Tom Brake MP.

Tom Brake said that "the event was a fantastic opportunity to recognize people's skills and enthusiasm, regardless of their levels of educations or disabilities. We must do all we can to encourage people with disabilities, long-term illnesses or no qualifications to volunteer and make a difference. Ultimately, it is a case where everyone can benefit from it."
