Brake Attends Cardiac Support Group at St Helier's Hospital

2.29.04pm GMT Wed 16th Jan 2008

As part of a series of regular meetings with patient support groups, Lib Dem MP Tom Brake attended the St Helier Cardiac Support Group meeting on the 12th of January, 2008. The support group meets monthly on the second Saturday at St Helier Hospital.

Commenting after his visit, Tom said, "Two very clear messages came out of our meeting. Firstly rehabilitation is very cost-effective and stops patients having to return to hospital. Secondly patient support groups are central to the rehabilitation process."

Among issues that were discussed at the meeting was the need for a nurse from the cardiac rehabilitation unit to attend regularly the monthly meetings and for the importance of rehabilitation to be recognised by hospitals and GPs.
