Post Offices Petition On Their Way to Number 10's Letterbox3.03.44pm GMT Tue 4th Mar 2008
Following visits to all four of the Post Offices threatened with closure in the Carshalton area, Tom Brake MP is receiving hundreds of extra signatures on his petition or those being run by the Postmasters. These will be delivered to Number 10 Downing Street next week. In the last couple of weeks Tom has met many customers severely affected by the closure plans. Tom who is working closely with the Postmasters said, "I have heard it first hand from a large number of customers that the so-called alternative Post Office is no such thing! It's either too far or too difficult to get into." For instance, on his visit to the Seymour Road Post Office in Hackbridge, as well as meeting the owner, Jay Patel, he also met many senior citizens who will either struggle to make the journey to the next nearest Post Office or will not attempt it because of the dangers of crossing London Road which has a constant flow of traffic and has been the scene of a number of serious accidents in recent years.
