Young Volunteers Receive MV Awards

11.43.51pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 30th Mar 2008

Scores of dedicated young volunteers received their MV awards on Friday evening at an event organised to celebrate their achievements at Overton Grange School in Sutton.

Young volunteers from a number of schools - including a large number from Overton Grange school - and youth organisations were recognised for their work with a number of charities, environmental projects, Youth FM and many other groups.

Since MV started, it is estimated that over 900 young people have taken part, contributing over 50,000 volunteer hours!

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington had the honour of presenting the certificates.

He commented, "The evening was a great occasion. I was really impressed by, and proud of, the range of contributions Sutton's young people are making here in Sutton, day after day, to strengthen our community."

Tom also thanked Becky, who has been managing the project for the last year, for her dedication to the cause of volunteering.
