Tom Meets Young, Local Tennis Player On the Rise3.14.45pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 31st Mar 2008
Tom Brake, MP from Carshalton and Wallington was recently contacted by a young tennis player looking for help to improve his skills. Giuseppe Delgado is a local constituent and young athlete who has high hopes of a glittering athletic career, and with the 2012 Olympic games fast approaching, Tom put him in contact the GLL Sport Foundation to see what help could be provided. GLL run Sutton's sports facilities and is London's largest social enterprise providing accessible sport and leisure facilities across the area, specifically to help young people reach their full sporting potential. Fortunately for Giuseppe, GLL were able to provide free access to their sports facilities to help Giuseppe maintain his all around fitness. Tom commented, "Extending youth participation in sport is not only a priority in the run-up to the 2012 games to boost our medal prospects, but also because of the numerous benefits both health wise and socially it can offer our young people. I am pleased that GLL was able to offer facilities which Giuseppe can use to improve his skills and look forward to seeing more sportsmen and women in our area becoming actively involved." GLL currently operates in partnership across 16 boroughs managing 65 facilities in many constituencies. More information can be accessed on the web at www.gll.org
