Sutton's Kids Say 'Butt Stop'

11.21.50am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 2nd Jul 2008

Last Thursday Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington met the winners of the 'Butt Stop' competition in Parliament.

'Butt Stop' is a competition in which students from local schools created anti-smoking campaign films and animations. After all the submitted films were shown at The Empire Cinema in Sutton back in March, the panel of judges chose the winners. The winning film, entitled 'Choices', was made by a group of four students from Carshalton Boys Sports College.

The visit at Westminster included a tour around the Houses of Parliament and a 'Question and Answer' session between Tom Brake, and the students from Carshalton Boys, Robin Hood Junior and Camden Junior Schools.

Tom, a vocal advocate of the recently introduced smoking ban in public places said: "the message from the young students is loud and clear, they want smokers to quit. Creating campaign films is a great way of encouraging smokers to do so. Quitting would make a huge difference to smokers' health and general well-being and to the health of other family members as well".
