Local MP welcomes The Big Lunch to Carshalton and Wallington

5.22.27pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 1st Jul 2009

Tom Brake urges residents to take part in The Big Lunch, an Eden Project Initiative, which is a yearly project starting on Sunday 19th July 2009.

The Big Lunch aims to encourage as many of the 61 million people in the UK to simultaneously sit down to lunch together with their neighbours, in the middle of their street. People in local communities will work together to cook for The Big Lunch, as well as work together to dress the street in preparation for the event.

The Big Lunch has gained support from political figures such as Gordon Brown, campaigners such as Jamie Oliver, as well as from organisations such as Google and The National Trust.

Commenting, Tom Brake said,

"I believe that communities are very important and this initiative will help bring a lot of people together."

"I would love to see a great number of people in Carshalton and Wallington sign up to this scheme and enjoy some good cooking at the same time."
