Local jobless rate hits a three-year low

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington has welcomed the news that local unemployment has fallen to its lowest levels in three years.

Figures released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) on 22 January 2014 show that the number of people claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance (JSA) in Carshalton and Wallington has fallen for the tenth consecutive month. The data also reveals an 18.6 per cent decline in the number of long-term unemployed locally.

Local MP Tom Brake has once more swapped the busy corridors of Westminster for a running path, when he took part in the Running.jpgBeddington Park 10k Charity Fun Run on Sunday, 24 November.

Tom was joined for the run by groups of volunteers. The formidable 'Team Brake' went head-to-head with the other contenders, to raise money for Cricket for Change (C4C), a Wallington-based charity which uses sport to change the lives of disadvantaged and disabled kids.
