Refugees Crying Out for Help

Following his local rally a few weeks ago, outside Wallington’s Old Town Hall, in support of refugees which attracted around 100 local residents, Tom set out plans to create safe and legal routes for refugees at the Liberal Democrat conference on Saturday, 19 September.

Speaking after the debate he said:

“We cannot walk on by when we see daily images of desperate refugees climbing into overcrowded trains or flooded, waterlogged boats or stranded in camps close to the Syrian border.  We must respond positively to their pleas for help."

The motion at conference called for the government to significantly increase the numbers of refugees who are being resettled in the UK.

Tom added:

“The UK has an international commitment to give protection to those fleeing war and persecution. We must honour this commitment and help avoid a humanitarian catastrophe.”
