The uncertain future of the vital services at St Helier Hospital is one of the biggest concerns of local residents. Thankfully the petition, borne out of the need to actively protect and promote the A&E and maternity units at St Helier, is close to reaching its latest milestone of 25,000 signatures!
Commenting on the Save our St Helier campaign, Tom Brake said:
“St Helier hospital, and keeping all of its vital services open, is an issue that I hold very close to my heart. My children, like tens of thousands of other local children, were born at St Helier. The maternity and indeed the A&E department have always been there for me and my family at our time of most urgent need”
“Because of the crucial decisions being made this summer I urge all those who have not yet got involved in the campaign to do so as soon as possible. Sign the petition, display a poster or distribute leaflets! We need, once again, to show GPs and decision makers that St Helier is an institution deeply valued by the community which must be saved”
This summer a provisional plan for the future of vital services at St Helier may emerge, with key decisions needed by the end of this year or early next year.
