Tom Brake Backs Easier Payments for Black Cab Customers

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, has thrown his support behind the move to require licensed taxis to accept payment with credit and debit cards.

Transport for London is currently holding a consultation to seek views on whether all black cabs should be required to accept cards. Under the move, passengers would still be allowed to pay with cash. There are no plans to allow taxi passengers to use Oyster cards. Contactless cards are already accepted on the bus and Tube networks.

Commuters can share their opinions with Transport for London by participating in the consultation at https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/taxis/card-payment. The consultation will continue until 24 July.

Tom commented,

“I support requiring black cabs to accept credit and debit cards. Paying by card is convenient for passengers and saves them from having to carry cash or find a cash machine, especially late at night.”
