Local MP, Tom Brake is warning the “death of social housing” is imminent.
His warning comes after the Lib Dem Leader, Tim Farron attacked the Government’s plans to sell off high-value social housing with no guarantee of replacement and said it would lead to a severe reduction in social and affordable housing, which would hit the most vulnerable the hardest. Tim argued that with already 1.6million people on social housing waiting lists, the government’s resources “should be focused on building new homes”.
“I am working hard with Sutton Council to make sure local residents have new affordable homes. The Council has created a council-owned housing development company to build the homes Sutton desperately needs. We believe building affordable homes should be a priority and we will continue to make it one in Sutton.”
Tim Farron and Caroline Pidgeon, Lib Dem Mayoral candidate, recently visited Carshalton and Wallington and praised the work Lib Dem led Sutton Council has been doing and called Sutton “a showcase for good quality housing.”
