Carshalton and Wallington MP, Tom Brake, presented last Friday a long running local petition to save Accident and Emergency, Maternity and Children’s services at St Helier Hospital. Mr Brake was joined by local St Helier Councillor Jean Crossby in submitting the petition to Dr. Brendan Hudson, Chair of the Sutton CCG.
Tom Brake MP said:
“Earlier last year, I said that I would hand in the latest St Helier petition when it can have the most impact.
"With the Clinical Commissioning Groups reviewing the clinical and financial challenges facing the local NHS, now is the time to let the authorities know the strength of local feeling in support of St Helier hospital”.
Tom added: “I will continue to fight for services at St Helier and will continue to press the case for a long term strategy to ensure the continued viability of our local hospital.”
Over 25,000 people have signed the petition calling on South London Clinical Commissioning Groups to keep open St Helier Hospital's A&E department, Maternity ward and Children’s ward and develop a plan which has local support, is based on solid evidence and provides desperately needed services in the community.
