On Friday, 28 November, Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, will be hosting a Disability Confident Jobs Event at the St. Michael's Centre on Milton Road in Wallington from 11:00am-2:30pm.
This event is one in a series of national events hosted by local MPs to encourage employers to understand the business benefits of employing disabled job seekers. This Disability Confident Event will go one step further, though, and will also aim to help disabled people who wish to work find employment or gain more information about pre-employment services available.
About the event, Tom says, "There are many myths about disabled people taking many says off sick, costing money to have adjustments made in the workplace, and creating fear of a culture of discrimination claims; amongst others. All of these are just that - myths!
"I feel it is important to address these myths so every disabled person seeking work in Carshalton and Wallington has a fair opportunity to do so. Whether you are an employer, an organisation that represents people with disabilities, or helps secure employment for disabled people, or have a disability, I look forward to working with you at this important event."
The event will feature a number of speakers who can offer more information about the employment of disabled persons, as well as an opportunity for individuals to network with local businesses.
