Tom Brake MP urges local residents to beware rogue traders

Police in Sutton have issued a warning to people living in Wallington that there are currently rogue traders operating in the area. Tom Brake has urged local residents, especially the elderly and vulnerable, to shun these scammers and report any suspicious cold callers to the police.

In a statement, the Sutton branch of the Met Police said that rogue traders posing as gardeners and builders were targeting elderly people in Wallington in an attempt to gain entry to their house and steal money or valuables. They advise people who see suspicious cold callers requesting money up-front for work or entry into their homes to keep their doors closed and call the police.

Tom Brake commented:

“It is a shame that we must take these kinds of measures to ensure we remain safe in our own homes, but thankfully the police are able to clamp down on these rogue traders as soon as local residents report them”

“Please make sure you stay safe and report any suspicious cold callers to the police. Spread this message to people who are likely targets for the scammers to help make sure they don’t fall victim to their evil tricks.”
