Tom Brake Praises Hard-working Carers during Carers Week 2015

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, attended a number of events as part of Carers Week 2015, which ran from 8 to 14 June.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. This year’s festival was focused on building Carer-Friendly Communities.

Carers UK are the UK’s only membership charity devoted to carers. During the week, thousands of events were put on around the UK.

For more information about Carers UK, you can visit the charity’s website at: http://www.carersuk.org/ . Next year’s Carers Week will run from 6-12 June 2016.

Tom commented:

“It is important that we raise awareness of the challenges carers face every day. Because of their demanding schedules, carers sometimes need people to go out of their way to help them and offer flexible work schedules or alternative appointment times with their GPs.

“These needs are not always understood by everyone. I was happy to make time to support unpaid carers, who are some of the hardest workers in our community.”
