Tom Brake puts his “Thinking Hat” on for St. Mary’s Catholic Junior School

Tom Brake MP was the star guest at the assembly at St. Mary’s Catholic Junior School, the morning of the 16th of November. His specialist subject was his life as a local MP.

Tom answered questions for the pupils which spanned the straightforward ‘how did you became an MP’ to the more brain-stretching ‘what is the greatest challenge you have faced’.

In replying, he attempted to use the de Bono Six Thinking Hat learning method by which the school teaches. The hats range in colour and are meant to provide a framework to help children think clearly and thoroughly by directing their thinking attention in one direction at a time.

Tom said:

“I loved visiting St. Mary’s Catholic Junior School on Monday. My visit was well-timed as the pupils are currently learning about modern British values. It is obvious they know what this means as they held their own mock election in May.

In the Q+A, their questions were tough and topical.  I encourage St. Mary’s Catholic Junior School’s pupils and teachers to keep up the good work!”
