Unemployment in Carshalton and Wallington continues to plunge

Figures released on 16th April 2014 by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) revealed that the level of unemployment in Carshalton and Wallington fell again from 2.9% to 2.8%.

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, welcomed the figures which show that the number of Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimants is 637 lower than in March 2013 and 47 lower than in February 2014.

Tom said: “This is fantastic news, with the Lib Dems in government, our long term economic plan continues to create jobs and apprenticeships for local residents.

“There is still more to be done but the statistics show we are on the right track.  We must continue to work hard to build a stronger economy and a fairer society.”

Nationally, unemployment fell below 7% for the first time since the recession.
