On Monday, Tom Brake MP and the local Liberal Democrats spent the day selling second-hand books at the Carshalton Environmental Fair and encouraging people to sign the St Helier Hospital and Better Buses petitions.
Tom also took the opportunity to sample the samosas and cake from the Sutton Community Farm stall and chatted with many local residents.
Carshalton & Wallington MP Tom Brake said:
"This year at the Environmental Fair I was there, not only to raise awareness of possible plans for our local hospital and improvements to local bus services, but also to hear first hand from residents about their passion for the environment.
"Unsustainable consumption and environmental damage are really important issues, so it was great to see so many people, both promoting and supporting local ways of becoming more sustainable such as buying second-hand books!
"I was extremely pleased that the St Helier Hospital and Better Buses for Sutton petitions gained over a hundred new signatures, in just a few hours!
"The support that local residents are showing is truly inspiring. I am proud to be part of such an actively engaged local community."
Carshalton Environmental Fair is held each year in Carshalton Park on August Bank Holiday Monday.
The fair has over 150 stalls, children's activities, local craft, interactive demonstrations, tasty food and more, all showcasing local sustainability initiatives.
