Are you up for the Summer Reading Challenge? - Brake

Tom Brake MP is encouraging local children to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge run by The Reading Agency and local libraries.

Tom met with the organisers in Parliament where they revealed the theme of this year’s challenge: “Mischief Makers”.

Carshalton & Wallington MP Tom Brake said:

“I am keen to work with The Reading Agency to discuss different ways to encourage children of all ages to continue reading throughout the summer break.

“Reading is such fun! There is nothing that I love more than to relax with a good book on a hot summer’s day, forget where I am and be taken to the most exciting or magical places.

“The reading challenge is a great initiative. It can be completed at most local libraries and rewards children after finishing a book borrowed from the library. There are a large number of rewards to be given away and each child who participates in the challenge will receive a certificate.

“I will be donating two books to our local libraries, Dennis and the Chamber of Mischief and The House with Chicken Legs, to support the challenge and to help boost the choice!”

A report from the Reading Agency conducted in 2017 showed that 761,758 children completed the Summer Reading Challenge, a large increase compared to the challenge in 2016.
