Tom Brake MP is backing Lib Dem candidate Barry Lewis in the Wallington North by-election on Thursday 28th March.
Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake said:
"When Joyce Melican had to step down because of her health, I was devastated. She is a good friend and was a formidable Councillor who served Wallington for many years. Now, on Thursday, residents will have the opportunity to elect the next Councillor for Wallington North – someone to carry on Joyce’s work.
"Barry Lewis is the candidate that local people can trust. He lives locally on Stanley Park Road, cares about our community and has dedicated much of his life to helping others."
Barry was born, educated and married in the borough and has been a Scout Leader for over 25 years. He currently runs a local Cub Pack and Explorer Scout Unit.
He is dedicated to serving the community, having previously volunteered with adults with severe learning disabilities at Orchard Hill College and as an appropriate adult at Sutton Police Station.
Tom Brake added:
"While the other parties have spent the last few weeks campaigning negatively, Barry has been working hard with Councillors Sunita Gordon and Marian James to stand up for our area, fight against damaging Tory police cuts and fix the junction at Wallington Green.
"I urge all Wallington North residents to go to the polls on Thursday and back Barry."
