Yesterday, the Sunday Telegraph reported that the local NHS will receive substantial new investment.
This critical funding, if forthcoming, will help refurbish older parts of St Helier and Epsom Hospitals, recruit more staff and build a new acute health facility for the sickest patients, which could be located at either hospital or the old Sutton Hospital site.
Carshalton & Wallington MP Tom Brake said:
"I welcome the announcement that our local NHS is in line to receive the funding it deserves. Local residents, Lib Dem Councillors and I have been fighting for over 20 years to protect the services at St Helier and secure the vital investment it needs.
"Whilst I am very happy with this news, it would not be the first time that a Tory Government has promised major funding for St Helier and then ended up breaking their promise. We have to hold the Government to their word, so I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure our NHS gets the funding it deserves.
"I call on local residents to help me keep the pressure up, hold the Government to their promise and continue the fight for our hospital! Add your name and join our campaign at www.tombrake.co.uk/st-helier.”
