Last week, Tom Brake MP met staff and volunteers at the charity's shop in Carshalton to praise their contribution, pledge support, raise awareness and highlight how local people can support the charity. Tom heard first hand about the hard work that goes on behind the scenes and how Cancer Research UK’s network of shops contributes to life-saving research.
Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake said:
"I am delighted to support my local Cancer Research UK shop and am grateful to the volunteers who make fund-raising possible and enable the charity’s researchers to keep making huge advances in the battle against cancer.
"Research is cancer’s number one enemy, so I’m calling on the local community to help Cancer Research UK to beat the disease and save lives. I encourage local residents to give their support in any way they can - donating or buying from the shop, volunteering or signing up for a sporting challenge. Together we can help beat cancer."
Cancer Research UK’s Carshalton shop manager, Linda Persaud, said:
"It is great to have the support of our local MP, as there is still so much more we need to do to ensure no one's life is cut short by cancer. We hope the people of Carshalton will really get behind us. We are looking for new volunteers in the shop and are always looking for people to donate more items."
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity. Their pioneering work into prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives. The charity funds research into all aspects of cancer and supports the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors, and nurses.
