Brake: Public must have option to reject botched Brexit

Tom Brake, Lib Dem MP for Carshalton & Wallington, is warning the Conservatives ‘botched Brexit’ will leave people poorer and is to call for the public to be given the final say on the deal.

During the final day’s debate on the PM’s Withdrawal Agreement on Tuesday, Tom Brake will be arguing for people to be given a final say, including the option to remain in the EU.

He will also be setting out a positive agenda for how to spend differently the money the Government are blowing on Brexit on fixing the problems in communities up and down the country who have been ‘left behind’.

Tom Brake said:

"Theresa May’s deal is bad for the NHS, bad for British jobs and leaves the UK a rule taker not a rule maker. It is a deal nobody voted for and nobody wants.

"At a time when services are stretched to breaking-point and beyond and the Government should be funding more nurses, teachers and police officers, we are facing an economic bombshell due to Brexit.

"Liberal Democrats demand better. The only escape from this Tory mess is to give the people the final say on the deal, including the option to remain in the EU."
