Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington hosted a drop-in session for MPs to demand answers from Southern Railway for concerned residents.
In recent weeks, Mr. Brake asked local residents to share their experiences of Southern, and as a result, he received over 60 responses to take to the table.
Tom said: “As a regular commuter, I completely understand residents’ frustrations, the people of Sutton deserve better public transport.
“I understand that growth has caused issues but Southern must do more to ensure a better experience for customers.”
During the meeting, Southern admitted that despite seeing performance of their service getting better, they are not at all satisfied and will continue to work closely with Network Rail to make improvements.
Southern were quick to point out that although performance is shy of their targets, they were working on a better communication system to ensure that passengers are kept properly informed and aren’t left stranded when things go wrong.
Mr. Brake commented “I whole-heartedly welcome this, when something has gone wrong, companies have a duty to do all that they can to help those affected.”
In a recent Which? survey, Southern were ranked 13th out of 20 train companies in a customer satisfaction league table.
