Seize the opportunity

May 4, 2004 12:00 AM

Speaking at the Year 9 Assembly at Stanley Park High School on Friday, Tom Brake MP, challenged the Year 9 students to get the best out of the opportunities that were offered to them at the school. His comments were given added relevance by the award given to one of the students for athletic prowess before Mr Brake made his short Assembly speech.

Mr Brake focused on the skills, friendship and opportunities that children in developing countries miss out on as a result of the lack of primary education.

Mr Brake's visit was part of the 'MPs back to school' initiative promoted by Oxfam and a number of teaching unions. The campaign is designed to draw attention to the 100 million children who receive no primary school education.
