Sutton Hosts Delegation from Shanghai

Sutton received 20 guests from Shanghai at a reception on Thursday afternoon in the Civic Offices.

The delegation, from the Shanghai People's Congress, the first to visit the United Kingdom, are in the UK to find out how local Government and national Government elected representatives consult with residents.

After the formal welcome by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Richard Bailey, Cllr Sean Brennan, the Leader of Sutton Council, Lord Tope and Tom Brake MP described, in turn, their roles and what matters they consult their electorate about and how the consultation is carried out.

Tom Brake who organised their visit to Sutton said, "Consultation is one our strengths locally. I am certain the delegates were impressed with the depth and range of the consultations that are carried out in Sutton, from the consultation about the Council's budget to the Mori Poll."

Cllrs Colin Hall and Cllr John Dodwell were also present.
