July 12, 2007 5:05 PM

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington wants residents to bid for the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust awards. Every year the Trust awards some 100 Travelling Fellowships to British citizens from all over the United Kingdom.

In 2007, the Trust awarded grants totally over £500,000, allowing people from all walks of life the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience abroad. Thousands of noteworthy projects are submitted annually and those chosen are provided with a life-changing experience.

The experiences of local winners from the Carshalton and Wallington area range from working with people with disabilities in the United States to working with improving industrial safety in Japan. Other projects include beadwork and embroidery in India, athletic performance in Spain, and developing more environmental friendly buildings in the United States.

The awareness and understanding that these Fellows bring back effects the community as well, bringing back valuable experience that is unrivalled.

Applicants must be a British Citizen to be eligible, currently reside in the UK, and be able to demonstrate that the project is noteworthy as well as valuable to the community and to the UK. Application topics and details are given on the website at www.mcmt.org.uk or call 020 7584 9315.

Tom Brake MP says, "This is an extraordinary program. Not only does it recognize noteworthy projects, but it encourages the personal development of those receiving the awards."
