Dr. Rohit Goel of the Carshalton Fields GP Surgery handed Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington a petition with nearly 600 signatures when Tom visited the surgery in Crichton Road, Carshalton Beeches on Monday.

Tom Brake is backing the petition headed, "This is a petition against proposals to move my GP services at Carshalton Fields Surgery from where they are, into a polyclinic".

The petition was launched after reports that nationally the Government are seeking to roll-out a network of polyclinics that could threaten the survival of small family GP practises.

Tom Brake said, "The NHS must be about providing care that meets patients' needs. Many patients prefer to visit a surgery close to their home to see a Doctor who has cared for them for many years or in some cases decades. The NHS must be about flexibility, not a one-size-fits-all based solely on polyclinics. If there is any move to force the merger of smaller GP practises with polyclinics, I will oppose it."

Mr Brake is writing to the Sutton and Merton PCT seeking confirmation that no forced mergers are planned.
