Tory Poll Predicts Victory for Brake

Local MP Tom Brake has found an unlikely supporter in the form of the Tory funded website PoliticsHome. The website, which was recently bought by the Conservative Peer Lord Ashcroft who is believed to be funding many Conservative candidates' campaigns, predicts that Tom will just retain his seat at the next election ahead of his Conservative rival.

In 2008, PoliticsHome carried out its first Electoral Index survey of over across 238 marginal constituencies and provided a seat by seat prediction of the result of the general election. The website claims that the poll is 'Quite simply, the most detailed snapshot to date of British political public opinion in the marginal seats that will decide the next general election.' Now, under a year before the next general election must take place, the poll has been carried out again.

In 2008 PoliticsHome predicted that Tom would lose his seat in a 5 % swing from the Liberal Democrats to the Conservatives, but this year, the website is predicting the Liberal Democrats will hold onto the seat.

Commenting on the results of this year's Index Tom said, 'This survey leaves no room for complacency. There will be no let up in the campaigns I am running to rebuild St Helier Hospital, safeguard the Freedom Pass and get the N213 bus reinstated.

"Next year's election will be a closely run race between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives here in Carshalton and Wallington. We need to work even harder to make sure that our message gets through to local people'

'I have worked hard over the last 12 years for local residents and will continue to do so, making sure that the needs of local people are addressed and that their voices are heard.'
