Tom Brake is encouraging Sutton residents to get involved in this year's Wandle Valley Weekend Festival. The event, which aims to celebrate the historic River Wandle and the work of many local organisations in preserving it, is now in its eighth year and will take place over the weekend of the 4th and 5th of June.

The MP for Carshalton and Wallington said: "There will be a number of events over the weekend, from walks to bicycle rides along the river, and all of them right on your doorstep!"

Among the many events being organised for the weekend is a free cycle ride along the Wandle on the 5th June. Led by Pollards Hill Cyclists, the largest cycle club in South London, the route will explore the length of the river and will include stops to look at some of the many interesting sights on the way and for lunch. The group will depart from Westcroft Leisure Centre at 9.30am.

There will also be a number of walks, including a guided one in Beddington Park on the 4th June, which will look at the history and some of the interesting features along the river. The tour will begin at 2.00pm in front of Carew Manor School, and tickets are £3.00 per person.

Tom added: "All these events will make for a great weekend and will help us to appreciate an important feature of our local heritage."
