Big Lottery Funds are a group that awards lottery money to community groups and projects that improve health, education and the environment. Recently, The Independent Film Trust secured an investment of £6000 for a project based in Beddington, 'Film Workshops with Special Needs'.

The group will use funding to provide children from a special needs school with an opportunity to learn new skills and take part in new activities through a film based project. This will enable participants to learn teamwork and communication skills while improving their confidence.

Tom Brake, local MP for Carshalton and Wallington, said of the investment: "It's fantastic that local initiatives in our constituency are getting the recognition that they deserve. 'Film Workshops with Special Needs' in Beddington does a very important job, in providing an environment wherein those with special needs can learn skills that will help to provide them with opportunity in the future. Hopefully this is just the start of investment in our community, as there are so many other wonderful charitable groups throughout the area."
