Network Rail in the Dog House

Speaking after the 'Save The Thameslink' meeting at Scola last Thursday, Tom Brake MP has condemned Network Rail's failure to show up to defend their decision to curtail through-services from Sutton, Carshalton and Hackbridge to Blackfriars and beyond.

Tom said, "It may be easier from an engineering point of view to cut local direct services from our area, but passengers demand their service is maintained. Many Sutton residents and businesses are dependent on good rail access to stations like Farringdon and St Pancras International. Network Rail should have been there to explain why they did not consult residents about their plans and how they are going to make good the damage they have done to the ability of the Wimbledon Loop rail services to connect directly with other key train services."

Tom is writing to the Chief Executive of Network Rail, David Higgins to ask why Network Rail did not attend, why they pre-emptively curtailed access for Sutton passengers to North London and international connections and what steps they are going to take to provide this access.
