In celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration, peers and MPs alike got together Wednesday for a tree planting on Speaker's Green. MP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake was one such MP and even got to lend the Speaker of the House of Commons a hand in the planting.

Tom said "For over half a century, Her Majesty has been an inspiration to the people of the UK and has overseen the prosperity of our nation. To plant this tree for her 60th year on the throne is an overwhelming honour."

The planting of the tree, a red Windsor apple tree, will mark the media launch of the Woodland Trust's second phase of the mass planting of six million trees nationwide for their Jubilee Woods project.

Tom said "All over the UK, people will be planting trees like this to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee. It fills me with the utmost pride to be a member of Her Majesty's Government on this special occasion."
