Stand up for cycling

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington has urged local businesses to use the TfL scheme of free bike stands, and help accommodate the growing numbers of employees in the areas, who cycle to work.

Up to 20 cycle stands per organisation are available, depending on the number of employees.

Encouraging businesses to use the offer, Tom said:

"I would like to see cycling become ever more popular, for a greener and healthier Carshalton and Wallington. But as a keen cyclist myself, I am aware that bike theft is still a big concern. The prospect of losing money by having your bike stolen will do little to widen the appeal of cycling."

"Secure parking space is key to increasing the cycling levels, and cycle stands can provide a safe and secure storage. I encourage all businesses in Carshalton and Wallington to use the advantage of free cycle stands."

As part of the scheme to encourage their workers to swap cars for bikes, local businesses are entitled to free cycle stands. Employers can chose from four different types of stands.

The only precondition is that business must have 5 or more employees. Employers will also be responsible for installation and maintenance. Applications can be submitted online.
